Individual Health Insurance in Nevada (NV)

For individual insurance in Nevada, private insurers are allowed to deny coverage to those with health problems. If you are eligible for HIPAA, the companies are required to offer two standardized policies. If you are not HIPAA eligible and you have a pre-existing condition, you may meet with an exclusion rider or with almost unlimited exclusion periods. The insurance companies have much leeway with the terms of pre-existing conditions and the time limits. Pregnancy can be considered a pre-existing condition. Although your individual policy cannot be cancelled due to your illness, there are a few limits on the cost of premiums.

Group Health Insurance in Nevada (NV)

Nevada regulations governing group health insurance provide that qualified persons cannot be denied or charged more for group coverage if they have a health problem. New employers and HMOs can compel a waiting period before providing group coverage. There are several life changes relating to family, children, marriage and job loss that will afford you more opportunities for group health insurance. Insurers are allowed to review your medical history for the six months prior to group coverage for pre-existing conditions. They can then require an exclusion period for the condition of no more than 12 months. If you have had no lapse of more than 63 days for coverage, you are entitled to a credit for the exclusion period.

Small Business Health Insurance in Nevada (NV)

Small businesses applying for small group health insurance cannot be turned down due to health factors within the employee group; it cannot be cancelled due to illness in the group; and the cost of the policy can only vary according to limited amounts (although the limits vary slightly according to the size of the groups).
