The Community Clinic of Shelbyville & Bedford County was among various Tennessean healthcare providers that received over $4.8 million recently in SafetyNet funding. This money was dedicated to services for Shelbyville residents who lacked healthcare. SafetyNet is a part of Governor Bredesen’s attempt to improve Tennessee’s healthcare, and to make primary healthcare services more accessible to Tennesseans who are underinsured or uninsured. The Community Clinic will receive over $33,700 for 1,350 patients (fiscal year 2007). Healthcare is vital to the Shelbyville economy. Currently, approximately 10% of females in the Shelbyville workforce serve in the healthcare industry.
