Richmond Health Care Resources

National Institutes of Health recently awarded a grant to the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine to expand research on women's health. The following areas will be covered with this grant: substance abuse, psychiatric genetics, reproductive health, cancer and diseases related to aging. In addition, researchers at the University of Virginia have led a multisite clinical trial showing that the drug topiramate is significantly more efficacious than placebo at curbing alcohol dependence. This topiramate can be used with other forms of treatment for alcoholism, increasing the chance of recovering from the disease.
