Arkansas Individual Health Insurance (AR)

When shopping for individual insurance, companies in Arkansas may turn you down for coverage because of a health problem. If you have not been able to find coverage because of a health problem, you may be able to buy Arkansas Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool insurance. Individual plans can use elimination riders which permanently exclude coverage on a pre-existing condition. However, there are certain special health conditions affecting certain body parts which can only be excluded for 6 months. Pregnancy and genetic information can both be considered pre-existing conditions in Arkansas. The State does not limit the costs of premiums on individual policies.

Arkansas Group Health Insurance (AR)

For group health insurance plans in Arkansas, you cannot be denied coverage, pay more or have your insurance cancelled because of a health condition, provided you qualify. A new employer may require a waiting time before offering group insurance. If you have a pre-existing condition, you may meet with an exclusion period of no more than 12 months. The new insurance company is allowed to review your medical records for the 6 months prior to coverage. If you have maintained continuous coverage, with no lapse longer than 63 days, you are eligible for creditable coverage toward any exclusion period.

Arkansas Small Business Health Insurance (AR)

A small business cannot be turned down for group health insurance, nor can insurance be cancelled due to illness of an employee. However, due to a sick person in your small group of 2 to 25, your premium may rise to a prescribed limit. For small businesses, Arkansas has continuation coverage for certain employees; contact the Department of Insurance to find eligibilities. The regulations for large businesses (26 or more employees) are different, as they can be turned down for insurance and there are no limitations on premiums by the state.

Arkansas Self-Employed Health Insurance (AR)

For the self-employed, group insurance in the State of Arkansas is not available to you. And, as with other states, affiliation with a trade association for the purpose of acquiring group health coverage has regulations which should be checked with the Arkansas Department of Insurance.
