Alabama Individual Health Insurance (AL)

When buying individual health insurance, Alabama allows the companies to turn you down for coverage. The exclusion period for a pre-existing condition can be longer than 24 months. In Alabama, there are no regulations which limit the premium price for individual insurance. The Alabama Department of Insurance states that premiums are based on the following considerations: medical care costs, coverage, age of policyholder, health, habits (smoking, as an example), geographic location, optional premium wavers.

Alabama Group Health Insurance (AL)

Under group health insurance from an employer, you cannot be denied insurance for a medical problem, be charged extra, or have your insurance cancelled if you get sick. When starting a new job, the new employer may have you wait a small length of time before starting the group health insurance. With pre-existing conditions, you might be required to wait for coverage at a new job, or have coverage for the condition excluded temporarily. If you have had continuous coverage, without a break of more than 63 days, you will be entitled to creditable coverage. When leaving a position that has group health, you can qualify for COBRA at the same level of coverage. With HIPAA eligibility, an individual can get Alabama Health Insurance Plan.

Alabama Small Business Health Insurance (AL)

Small businesses cannot be denied group health coverage because of a group member's health problem. Due to such health issues, a small business can have its premiums raised at the time of renewal.
